In this paragraph let us discuss the meaning of IFSC-Indian Financial System Code in a simple way. IFSC –Indian Financial System Code is an 11 digit unique code. The Reserve Bank of India assigns IFSC for identifying a particular bank’s branch. And it is widely used in making payments or electronic fund transfer through RTGS -Real Time Gross Settlement, NEFT – National Electronic Fund Transfer, IMPS –Immediate Payment service etc. IFSC is an alphanumeric code, which contains the first four characters representing the Bank, the fifth character is “0” which has been kept for future use and the remaining 6 characters denote the branch. It is a unique alphanumeric code to identify the specific branch of a bank, means each branch of any bank will bear a unique IFS Code. One branch-One IFSC.
The customer can get IFSC from the originating Bank itself while giving the NEFT/RTGS instructions to the originating Bank. Or otherwise, it is also available on RBI’s website at https://www.rbi.org.in/Scripts/bs_viewcontent.aspx?Id=2009.
And in CTS 2010 complied cheques, we can see IFS Code duly printed on it. Even the passbooks issued by the Bank’s comes with IFSC duly printed on the first page of the book. Further, respective banks website gives all the details required, including IFSC.
